A Nickel from Dr. Nichols
Today we spoke with Dr. Jason Nichols of the University of Maryland. It was a very interesting conference and we touched on many different topics. From hip hop, to college, to modern day society related issues, it was overall a very informative conference. We learned about his take on the situation relating to George Floyd and how we should approach stopping those types of incidents from happening in the future. I also enjoyed the part where he talked about Hiphop, as I'm into music myself. Something that I'll take away from this conference and I definitely agree with is the fact that people get too wrapped up in grades and getting "perfect" scores. Colleges should be focused on what type of person they are accepting into their atmosphere. You could be a great person but not have the best grades or a rude person and have great grades and be accepted into a great school and they'll take you. You want to be a part of a community where there are great people who you could trust. It's not always the "brightest" people academically. Overall the conference was great and I really enjoyed it.
